Pangaea Express - Quebec and Bill 81

July 12, 2017

It appears as though the Quebec Health Minister will be moving forward with the generic tender process as per Bill 81 that will allow the Ministry to conduct RFP’s for multi-source products.

While the Canadian Generic Pharmaceutical Association engaged in negotiations to prevent the implementation of this bill, in the end it seems as though the Ministry will pursue its original plan that is expected to save the province 25% - 35% of its $800 million annual generic drug spend.

As identified in a Globe and Mail article on June 27, 2017 the Health Minister has already sent a warning letter to the Competition Bureau given the fact that Bill 81 will disrupt the whole supply chain with drug monopolies.

Pangaea has learned that the terms of the tender process will be released at the beginning of July…so stay tuned.
