Anya Maves
BMS, MA
Manager, Marketing and Administration
Anya has a Master’s of Arts with Distinction from the Sainsbury Research Centre at the University East Anglia, UK and a Bachelor of Media Studies from the University of British Columbia. Her thesis focused on digital platforms co-created between Indigenous communities and museums to digitally return material collections. Thus, Anya is uniquely equipped with a background in digital media, communications and research.
Anya was previously a curatorial assistant to the department head at the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver. There she conducted research, prepared publications, and assisted in developing exhibitions and digital products. Due to the high quality of her deliverables, Anya’s collaboration was then extended to the Education, Design and Admissions departments. Working with multiple stakeholders required prioritizing projects, excellent communication with team members, attention to detail and efficiency in executing concurrent tasks. A highlight of her time at MOA was being part of the team that developed the first mobile app for the museum; an interactive multimedia guide with narrated stops, supplementary content and archival material.
Anya has also independently consulted with organizations and independent practitioners to improve their online presence, course material and social media practices. Using her background in user design, informatics, journalism, communication theory and audience studies she has authored reports, audited websites and produced content for her clients.
She excels at seeing the big picture which enables her to identify areas that need improvement and implement solutions. This ability also makes Anya finely attuned to how she can support those around her.
